CURRICULUM VITAE
SUE BARBER BAHons Fine Art (Derby University) Sue (b.1950), a farmer’s daughter who grew up on a working farm in the Derbyshire Dales, developed an early interest in drawing and painting. Following a career as a secretary and after her Son’s University graduation, Sue achieved a Fine Art Degree as a mature student. In 2003 she built a residential creative arts teaching business with a 9 bed guest house and studio. Sue is now focussing entirely on her art practice. |
Sue has a lifelong connection with nature, the countryside and familiar with its working practices and culture. She paints in oils and specializes in drawing with charcoal and pastel whether A4 size or 7ft x 5ft (2.15m x 1.54m) using processes to create texture, life and movement.
Her core passion is drawing (particularly trees) finding joy in the colour and light of a beautiful landscape or depicting the raw stormy life on the moors. Recently turning to figurative to capture the joy of coming together after the pandemic particularly socializing in pubs, sharing stories, laughs and music.

“Morph” Artist Group Exhibition, Ilkeston.
Sue took part in a drawing residency and exhibition at Ilam Hall with the National Trust, ran workshops and undertook voluntary work at Lea Green Summer School for 5-14 year olds.
She has taken commissions in oil paintings for commercial and private clients and accepted a commission to provide photographs for CD album sleeve “Dawn Bird” for the Loscoe State Opera Rock Band whilst still at art college.
In 2016 Sue attended a painting diploma course at the Norfolk Painting School with school founder and renound professional artist Martin Kinnear.
